As you may already know, green roses do exist in nature. We wrote about them in our previous posts about Rosa chinensis viridiflora and Green ice. Those are two distinct roses with a green hue on their petals. Rosa chinensis viridiflora is a rose-like shrub and very twiggy. While green ice is an ordinary rose, with a greenish hue on petals but both of them are unique flowers with specific characteristics for each of them. But in this post, we will try to discuss the symbolism of green roses.

Green roses may represent a connection to mother nature, who embraces us with their brunches and giving us that nurturing feeling. This is not far from the truth if we stop and think about how nature gave us everything we can see. We are as well part of nature and nature itself. So the green color of roses may represent care and nurture and connection with other living beings and nature.

However, the green color of rose, and other flowers, may represent negative associations too such as fear, mistrust, defensiveness, and jealousy. This may arise from not trusting others, and being distant is a sign of unfriendliness, too. But it is definitely a color which provides freshness to our sight. Especially if we can decorate our interior and exterior with these flowers, which nature gave us to enjoy them and appreciate them.

Their aesthetic qualities are subjective. Because not everyone likes green hues, tones, or shades. But the aesthetic experience of any given color is strongly influenced by its participation in combinations of two or more colors. Because colors are very rarely seen only in one hue, especially in nature. For example, red rose against green grass or transparent water against grey rocks at the bottom of the lake. But apart from that, we must admit that their rarity is something that distinguishes this type of rose from other ordinary roses.
